I'll have to answer this question with another question - what hotels have rooms available? Summerfest is enormously popular. People came to the festival from all over the United states. It's an event that's around 50 years old. Downtown Milwaukee has a great downtown. I've been suprised to see so many people walk half a mile or more to their hotel near the Summerfest grounds at midnight. It seems relatively safe for a large city. The good news is that there is a very decent bus system that serves a wide area of suburbs. So, I'd start looking now to see who will take your reservation. Most hotels within a ten mile radious will be sold out for that 11 day period. Attendance runs well over 800000. That means slim pickings. Try the major chains first using a map reference and milwaukee county transit system bus route information. You could be five or ten miles away and hop on a bus at a shuttle stop called a "park and ride". That's the way many people go.
