There is no entrance fee for the Sipi Falls. The only thing that costs you money around there is the sipi river lodge, which is mostly accomodation and not directly part of the falls. There are guides at the falls, that will tell you that there are entrance fees and will offer to take you around and take care of the entrance fees, if you pay them some money. They will tell you, that you cross private properties, and that someone takes care of the paths and the pool and that they split the money into the community.#R# In fact someone does take care of the paths and pools, but you can not tell if the guide you meet actually uses the money you pay those caretakers and gives it to the community.#R# As a general guideline it is a lot of money for a guide if he makes 25k a day in total.#R# Even if you are a group you can negotiate to around that ammount.#R# Some guides will block you from entering some falls, but the land around the falls is usually not theirs, so they dont have the right to stop you even if they tell you otherwise.#R# If you dont want to negotiate down to 25k in total (which will take you some good time) you should not pay more than 20k per person for a whole day of guidance, including all three falls, extended hiking and the cave.

Hi, from memory the road is good all the way from Mbale, however I am not certain that it is tarmac all the way ...... certainly the roads there are better than most other areas because of the food trade that goes on between that region and South Sudan ..... Hope this helps, sorry to be a little vague.
