Madness is barreling toward its conclusion. The women’s Final Four tipped off Friday night in Tampa, where defending champion South Carolina rolled past Texas, 74-57, in the first national semifinal.
Although Texas' campus is well over 1,000 miles away from Tampa, Rori Harmon and Madison Booker made sure the Longhorns have student support at the Final Four. With some assistance from coach Vic Schaefer and their school,
Golden, who holds a doctoral degree in musical arts from MSU, is also assistant professor of music and assistant director of bands at MSU, and serves as associate director of MSU's Spartan Marching Band. Before that, she was at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and spent 18 years as a band director at public schools in North Carolina.
South Carolina trailed UCLA as the No. 2 team in the ranking, with head coach Dawn Staley leading the defending champions. Joyce Edwards, MiLaysia Fulwiley and Chloe Kitts are the team's top three scorers, with guard Te-Hina Paopao a potential top pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, a key component.
