A man who had spent the last two-and-a-half years in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail died from an unspecified "medical emergency" at the jail last week and state officials

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Gwinnett County Jail.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said Phillip Antwon Munroe was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine security check in a maximum-security housing unit. Deputies responded to the medical emergency around 2:30 a.m., with officials saying they immediately administered life-saving measures.

A man was found "unresponsive" in his cell at 201 Poplar and died at the hospital a day later. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
