An apartment building in Union City suffered major damage when it caught fire on Tuesday morning. Crews were called to the Evergreen Commons apartments on Hwy. 138. NewsChopper 2 flew over the area and found the top floor of the building destroyed.

UNION CITY, Ga. — A fire destroyed a Union City apartment complex on Tuesday morning, according to the fire department. Crews were dispatched just after 9 a.m. on Jonesboro Road at the Evergreen Commons apartments. Union City Fire Chief Joe Maddox said the apartments were "gutted" due to water damage on the top floor.

The Fairburn Fire Department is working to put out flames at an apartment complex in neighboring Union City. Video posted to social media shows a large plume of black smoke in the air. Officials said the fire is a two-alarm,
