Forecasters have said parts of the U.S. can expect frigid temperatures in December. A first round has arrived, and more cold air could be coming.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va . (WSAZ) -Falling pressures will have an impact on our health and weather the next two days. Tony says its part of a December-long trend that has many folks opening the medicine cabinet. Tonight’s Weather Extra delves itno the world of the barometer.
Coastal areas will warm into the 50s and 60s early behind the front. Triad temperatures will likely remain cool through the afternoon. Temperatures will then climb into the 50s Thursday evening and through late Thursday night, and may even reach 60 degrees in the eastern Triad overnight.
Another cold day is ahead for New Jersey on Tuesday before a big temperature swing and a storm that will hit the state with heavy rain and gusty winds Thursday night. The immediate weather pattern remains quiet through Wednesday as temperatures gradually start to warm. Temperatures on Tuesday will reach the mid 20s to mid 30s with light winds.
Warmer temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-30s Tuesday and mid-40s Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Although a cold front is predicted Thursday night with temperatures back in the low-teens and a chance of wet snow, warmer-than-average weather is expected to return for most of this weekend and last until New Year’s.
A Weather Impact Alert will be in place Thursday night and Friday morning due to the potential for flash freezing and slick areas.
Wind chills won’t differ much from actual temperatures due to light winds, forecasters noted. Tuesday will remain cold, with highs mainly in the 30s despite air starting to flow in from the southwest. Temperatures will be running about 10 to 12 degrees below normal for mid-December.
