It all begins this week. Starting Friday, New Jersey wrestling teams begin competing around the state and nation in 15 weeks of tournament action. The Walsh Jesuit Ironman in Ohio kicks things off Friday and the tournament action will not end until the NJSIAA State Championships in Atlantic City on March 12-14.

Craig Skinner and the Kentucky Wildcats are one win away from the NCAA Volleyball Tournament Final Four. UK volleyball beat Cal Poly to advance.

While area wrestlers Rylan Seacrist (Brecksville, 113) and Karson Brown (St. Edward, 135) reached championship matches – two of five from Ohio – there were 12 other highly contested championship matches to close out Saturday’s festivities. Freshmen wrestlers only have one chance to make a first impression. For four freshmen wrestlers at the season-opening John and Betty Vogeding Tournament at Paulsboro, their first impression included bringing home a first-place medal and tournament championship on Saturday.
