Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey is facing a new challenge this season as the team’s unquestioned lead scoring option. The absence of Joel Embiid due to a knee injury has led to Maxey facing defenses game planning almost exclusively for him.
Embiid was sidelined due to a foot sprain that he was initially able to play through and sustained left knee swelling during his recovery which has delayed his return. According to Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire, Embiid was a partial participant in the team's practice on Monday and his knee has responded well to treatment.
The other 76ers sidelined for this game against the Cavs are Caleb Martin (right hip sprain), Andre Drummond (left toe injury recovery), Kyle Lowry (right hip sprain), KJ Martin (left foot stress reaction) and Jared McCain (left knee meniscus surgery).
The 76ers still think Joel Embiid, who’s played in just 13 games this season, is a franchise-level player. “We’re still really happy with Joel,” 76ers majority owner Josh Harris told The Athletic
The Philadelphia 76ers have won just three of their last 10 games and are 10-21 without Joel Embiid this year. Still, the 76ers brass is confident that Embiid will return to action and lead them to the playoffs.
