The GBI is investigating an inmate death at the Gwinnett County Jail. Deputy Pagan with the Gwinnett sheriff’s office says Phillip Antwon Munroe was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine security check in a maximum security housing unit.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate at Gwinnett County Jail died last week and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case, according to the sheriff's office.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said Phillip Antwon Munroe was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine security check in a maximum-security housing unit. Deputies responded to the medical emergency around 2:30 a.m., with officials saying they immediately administered life-saving measures.

Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak says his office is investigating a death at the Jefferson County Jail. At around 9 a.m. Monday morning, Aaron Sarles, 26, died while awaiting for transport to another county.
