Thick smoke near State Road 20 and Keuka Road led authorities to close a section of the highway early Wednesday morning, causing disruptions for local families and schools.

Officials say the road closures will cause some bus routes to not be able to run or be delayed, including Jenkins Elementary. However, all absences will be excused.

A section of State Road 20 in Putnam County closed early Wednesday due to “extremely heavy smoke in the area,” prompting Robert H. Jenkins Jr. Elementary to close for the day, according to officials.
