AUSTIN — Texas announced Thursday that it will not hold a spring football game for the first time in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s four-year Longhorn tenure. Sarkisian made the announcement on a football podcast and cited the wear and tear of two consecutive long seasons as the reason for the cancellation.

According to head coach Steve Sarkisian, his program will pass on hosting a spring game ahead of next season to better focus on preparing a roster of new players for the 2025 season, meaning the next time the Longhorns will take the field will be in late August against Ohio State in Columbus.

One of the traditions that may start to fall by the wayside is the annual spring game. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has announced that the Longhorns won't be playing a spring game this year.
