The 427-kilometer railway project will run from the Vietnam-China border gate at Lao Cai-Hekou, through the capital of Hanoi and port city of Haiphong, to Ha Long City, the official Vietnam News Agency reported.

The railway project will extend about 390.9km from Lao Cai province, near the Chinese border, to Lach Huyen station in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

Vietnam’s National Assembly has approved a project to build a new 390km railway from Haiphong and Hanoi to Lao Cai on the border with China.

Vietnam's National Assembly on Wednesday approved raising the economic growth target for this year and also voted in favour of major infrastructure projects, including the country's first nuclear power plants and a rail link to China.

The National Assembly has approved the construction of a modern railway from Lao Cai to Hai Phong, enhancing domestic and international trade connectivity.

It is one of two railway lines to China that Vietnam plans as part of its ‘Two Corridors, One Belt’ initiative.

Vietnam plans to take loans from the Chinese government to partly fund a $8.3 billion project to build a new railway linking the two countries, the transport minister said on Thursday.
