The juglone and the tannins in the walnut hulls make black walnut a substantive dye so there is no mordant needed! So put on some gloves, grab some walnuts and some wool (and a dedicated dye pot - don’t use your kitchen pots!) and go for it! You will be knitting with beautiful brown yarn before you know it!"
